INDEVCO North America Values

Our purpose is helping you achieve yours

Every day, across the country, our people come to work with a shared purpose—to enhance businesses and enrich lives. Whether it’s snack food pouches or takeout trays, salt cans or house wraps, we envision, engineer and manufacture packaging and building envelope solutions that are reliable, high-performing and technically advanced. Solutions that do the job, then do it again.

But we don’t stop there, because the INDEVCO North America family believes we have a duty to protect the communities we live in. It’s why we’re driven to create opportunity for people just as we create solutions for businesses as an essential part of their value chain.

This sense of protection and purpose is at the heart of the INDEVCO Way. From our responsibly sourced materials and manufacturing processes to our packaging and building products, we are deeply committed to protecting our people, our customers, our suppliers—and the communities and world we live in.

Protecting what’s valuable

We are committed to being the trusted partner brands need by innovating, manufacturing and delivering products and services that protect the long-term sustainability of our communities, customers, suppliers and the environment.

History

In the 40 years that INDEVCO has maintained a presence in North America, generations of employees have raised their families, served customers through hard work and commitment and played important roles in their local communities.

In 1982, our founder, Georges Frem, saw opportunity in the U.S. when the privately owned industrial group (INDEVCO Group) he was building with his three brothers purchased a paper mill in Georgia, along with several corrugated converting plants in the eastern United States. These modest operations offered ideal capabilities and locations. The Frem brothers’ strong desire to create both jobs and value was directly related to limiting urban migration and helping people stay in their hometowns. To them, community involvement was key to business success.

Over the next three decades, our U.S.-based company, Interstate Resources, Inc., would grow into one of the largest independently owned, vertically integrated paper and corrugated packaging groups in the U.S., managing forestland and producing timber, lumber, kraft linerboard, recycled corrugating medium, corrugated sheets and corrugated packaging.

In 2015, INDEVCO diversified by opening INDEVCO Plastics, a blown film extrusion plastics manufacturing plant in Longview, Texas, in close proximity to petrochemical processing plants throughout the state and into Louisiana.

INDEVCO Plastics and sister company Napco National became part of the INDEVCO Group, which grew to be the largest global supplier of FFS bags to the petrochemical industry.

In 2017, London-based DS Smith acquired 80% of Interstate Resources, Inc., and by 2020 held 90%. Parent company INDEVCO’s U.S.-regional headquarters shifted from Arlington, Virginia, to the Richmond area, where it retained Barricade Building Products and Specialty Coating & Laminating operations. In addition, in 2017, INDEVCO North America became a shareholder in ePac Flexible Packaging—a disruptive digitally based flexible packaging company serving brands of all sizes with fast speed-to-market and low minimums.

Today, INDEVCO North America continues to expand its Building Products, Coating & Laminating and Plastics divisions. Its manufacturing plants are market leaders in a range of product lines, and it serves a growing list of industries, including building and construction, beverage, chemical and petrochemical, food, industrial salt and minerals, lawn and gardenpackaging converting, pet food and transport packaging.

As we evolve, INDEVCO North America’s commitment to local communities and the people within them will continue to provide the foundation for our family of companies—guiding our business principles, practices and overall sense of purpose.

Corporate Philosophy

“What is good for the community is good for the company. What is good for the company, we will strive to do excellently and in a way that enriches the lives of our people. The objective of each member company will be to resolve one or more of the problems, which now hamper the social and economic development of the community. They will demonstrate that private companies with social spirit can, in some areas, contribute more effectively than government institutions. In solving these problems they can also be profitable and finance their own growth.”
