Innovative Transport Packaging: A Sustainable Case Study Building a Sustainable Future
In today’s rapidly evolving logistics and supply chain industries, sustainability is not just an option but a necessity. At INDEVCO North America within INDEVCO Packaging Solutions, we are leading the charge with innovative transport packaging solutions that prioritize environmental responsibility without compromising efficiency or durability. This case study highlights a sustainable approach to palletizing water bottles using cutting-edge materials and techniques.

The Sustainable Packaging Solution
Our transport packaging system reimagines traditional pallets by replacing wooden pallets with slip sheets, utilizing shrink bundling films, tier sheets, and plastic top sheets, all secured with stretch wrap. This system delivers superior performance while significantly reducing environmental impact.
Our shrink bundling film is at the core of this system. Made from 50% recycled content and fully recyclable, it securely wraps water bottles, reducing shifting and breakage during transit. By eliminating the need for bulky corrugated trays or boxes, the film minimizes material use while maintaining high performance. This innovation ensures a robust and sustainable packaging approach.
Slip sheets play a crucial role in replacing traditional wooden pallets. Manufactured from paper supplied by chain-of-custody certified sources, these sheets are lightweight and durable. Additionally, options for bioplastic coatings and biodegradable adhesives further enhance their eco-friendliness. By reducing pallet weight and optimizing storage space, slip sheets significantly lower carbon emissions per pallet, making them an excellent alternative.
Tier sheets provide added stability between bottle layers. Designed with the same sustainable practices as slip sheets, these sheets ensure durability and recyclability while improving load stability during transportation.
The plastic top sheet offers an extra layer of protection against moisture, dirt, and dust. Composed of 50% recycled content and fully recyclable, it safeguards the product without adding unnecessary waste.
Lastly, our stretch wrap, made with 90% recycled content, secures the entire palletized load. This fully recyclable wrap ensures stability throughout transportation, contributing to both safety and sustainability.

Environmental Impact
Implementing this sustainable transport packaging system yields impressive environmental benefits, including:
78 MTCO2E in Annual Reductions:
Equivalent to removing the annual emissions of 16 passenger vehicles. Conserves 8,768 gallons of gasoline annually. Prevents the use of 3,247 propane cylinders.

These results showcase the potential for meaningful change when sustainable practices are integrated into everyday operations.
Enhanced Performance and Sustainability
By combining these innovative materials, the solution not only reduces environmental impact but also delivers key operational advantages:
- Improved Load Stability: The shrink bundling film and stretch wrap ensure secure transport, reducing the risk of product damage.
- Optimized Space and Weight: Slip sheets and tier sheets reduce bulk, freeing up valuable shipping and storage capacity.
- Cost Efficiency: Recyclable and lightweight materials reduce waste disposal costs and enhance overall supply chain efficiency.
Conclusion
This case study underscores INDEVCO North America’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in transport packaging. By leveraging recyclable materials, reducing reliance on traditional wooden pallets, and optimizing shipping practices, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future.
